The mimetic finite difference method

We give an overview of the Mimetic Finite Difference (MFD) method, focusing on the formulation that has been recently developed in Pavia in collaboration with the team of Los Alamos. Both a priori and a posteriori estimates are briefly discussed for the approximation of the Poisson equation, and results of numerical experiments are presented to show the performance of the method. Some open issues and perspectives for future works are also considered in the final part of the talk
